Ok, So Keaton Kohl and I have been working together on a new Proton Pack for Ghostbusters.
This is just the proto. it will be used to make a mold and then we will start making light plastic ones.

hahahaha, very nice! Those look baby size actually, compared to that Sprite can, unless you have children that small, heh. Either way, realy nice work!

Ages ranging from 3 to 7. It will be a tad small on the oldest and a tad big on the youngest.

Nicely done. Great work on scaling down the parts, I look forward to seeing the final version.

Oh, and nice theatrics... wish more people could be that creative.

Dude, thats just sweet!!!! I would love to have a few myself to have. Great idea, I cant wait to see the final pack and gun and some size comparison shots next to an adult pack. Have you thought about lighting effects? I am thinking static LED's just to keep it simple. And what about the pack frame? Will you be making those from scratch or pass on it and just add the straps to the motherboard?

We are thinking of making the frame out of PVC. As for lights, we have been thinking about diffrent ways to go with that. The pack has been built to hold basic electronic parts. I will see if I can get some side by side shots with my full size pack to show the size.

I'm building. Normally if properly scaled they would be a tad larger but the adult size on an adult is cumbersome and children have less patience with such things so they are smaller running the lenth of a backside from shoulder to waist. I used Stefan's plans to show the comparrison (Hope he doesn't mind) and I used his blueprints for my reference. I can't thank him enough for those. He truly rules.

We will post a pic showing it next to Guyver's pack and next to a 9 year old so you'll get a better idea, but first I gotta charge my camera battery.

Ok, here is a side by side (note that my pack is left handed and backwards from a normal pack) and one of the pack on the back of a 9yr old.
After seeing it on his back we are thinking of making a size between the two for kids over 6.

I have to say that's a little weird to see lol but awesome work, the scaling is incredible, that must have been very difficult!

Ok, Cliff I'm thinking that the 65% is maybe too small all around and maybe we should use 80% to cover the hole age range for kids. Here is a photo that should give you some idea.

Of course I realize this means starting from scratch but I think after building this one the next one will be much easier and I'm confident enough to use more expensive materials (the one posted is made of paper and cardboard) but I'd have to wait for the wood shop to open at school unless someone in MO has a band saw they will let me use. O' and a drill press. Also is there a way we can rename this topic to reflect that we are talking about scaled packs?

I am sure we can find that stuff, and yes, the size looks better at the new scale. Don't pitch out the tiny one yet. I bet it would still fit Zane if nothing else.

yeah, the 65 will make a good todler especially the way we talked about filling the gaps and it will make a good test for the molding process. By the way if anyone has some advice on molding we would apreciate it we were thinking of making a plaster mold and then casting with layers of bondo. Whatever we use it has to be lightweight and durable by a 2 year old's standards. So it can't be anything that would shatter but can flex a little. Plastic would seem ideal but i have to be able to paint it into the mold to cast a shell.

AH, turns out the pack I built was building is at 60% not 65% (I checked my notes) I found that a 70% id way to big so I will start building a 65% now at probably use the 60% to test molding materials.

Fiberglass makes me nervous
Silicone is expensive
I've thought of doing a plaster mold and plastic cast I've also been told I could use bondo as a casting agent in plaster molds anyone have any sugestions

We will be hitting a few of the local (KC) cons and I will be going down to Dragoncon in Atlanta in sept.

Guyver may yet talk me into Dragon Con, but right now it seems unlikely because I have a lot of writing to do this summer. I also plan on starting on the mini 65 pack if my molding tests are favorable on the 60. The detail should be better on the 60 being slightly larger, and me being slightly more seasoned. I'm still needing advice on materials. Anyone? If I don't get any advice soon Guyver and I will try a brush up rubber mold for starters, possibly this weekend.

I would love to but all my vacation time and travle money is going to be tied up in Dragoncon this year.

Not yet on the gun. We are looking into some diffrent casting ideas that we want to try before getting to far ahead of ourselves. Zane is going to be a lil Ghostbuster this year and we have found some kids size flight suit patterns that we hope to use to make the suits. A name tag would be awesome!!!!!!
I am not sure if I would want it to read "Lil' G" or "Zane". Thats a tough call.

Cliff, I am in the process of making a stash of Venkman, Stantz, Spengler GB1 style name tags to sell, I will also make a few Zeddemore, Tully, Melnitz, Rivera, Miller, Jackson, Griffen, and a few selected other name tags to sell, so I can hook you up with a few choices, but Amy and I came up with Dr. Zane for your son. Whatcha think?

For the pack, since you will not be needing the pneumatic tubing, you could easily settle with some 12 or 14 guage wire as a great alternative. For the tubing for the pack to the gun, I'd suggest 1/2" split tubing. The grips would be tough to do. The body of the gun is going to be a doozy. My only suggestion, vacuform the thing.

Hey Slimer 7 any chance those name tags can be scaled down for the kids flight suit? Also how much do you charge for name tags I'd like to get one for myself and my kids if they aren't too expensive.

I don't see the grips as being a problem, we'll sculpt them outta clay then cast replicas and dip them in rubber grip. That should look pretty slick.

The gun body is very perpexing as for as casting goes we can make one easy enough but I'm not sure how to get a hollow cast I've asked another guy how he makes his gun body mold and he said he'll send me pics when he makes a new one so we are waiting on those. We don't want to conect something permenatly to the gun body only to find out they have to be removed for casting purposes.
